How can I make my website GDPR compliant?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a set of guidelines that have been set by the European Union on how companies can store and use people's information. 

When creating your website, it is very important to follow the GDPR guidelines so that you do not run into any issues with the information collected from your visitors. 

To ensure that your website is GDPR compliant, you can use the customizable Privacy Settings Page along with adjusting your Cookies Notifications so that your visitors are informed regarding the type of data and cookies information that is collected when they visit your page.

Privacy Page: 

A privacy page functions as a source of information that ensures that your visitors understand what kind of information is being collected and how it is safeguarded. It also explains the rights of the user and site owner are, and more.

To customize your websites Privacy Page, follow these steps below:

  1. Click on Settings from the left-hand menu within your Website Editor
  2. Then select Privacy Settings
  3. Click the Customize Privacy Page toggle
  4. This will prompt you to customize the text of the Privacy page. If your site did not have a privacy page until now, one will be automatically created. If you are ready to change the default text of the page, click Customize
  5. For your convenience, all elements that need customization are highlighted in red
  6. Make the necessary changes and when you republish the site, the privacy page will be added or updated
  7. Any additional changes can be made at any time by clicking Customize
  8. The default link for the privacy page is [yourdomain]/privacy but can be changed to any custom link in Privacy page URL field
  9. To revert the changes you have made on the default privacy page, click Reset to original page.

Cookie Notifications 

Some countries require websites to notify visitors that they use cookies. This ensures your site is compliant with local law and can be polite to security-minded visitors. 

To enable Cookie Notifications on your site, follow these steps below:

  1. Click on Settings from the left-hand menu within your Website Editor
  2. Then select Privacy Settings
  3. Click the Activate cookie notification toggle.
    Every visitor to your site will see a notification that the information about their site visit is collected in the form of cookies.
  4. Click Preview notification in order to preview the cookie notification on all devices. The cookie notification appears at the bottom of the page below the content of your site.
  5. You can choose to use default text for the cookie notification or customize it. The text field is free text and you may add any text or links to it.

Notes: Check the legal requirements in the country of your target audience regarding their specific cookie notifications laws, the form of the notification, and relevant links to add to the text of the notification.
