Starting a business and forming an LLC is an exciting step that comes with many important decisions. One of which is deciding who you want to assign as your LLC’s Registered Agent.
The purpose of a Registered Agent is to serve as the crucial link between your LLC and the state where it’s registered. This is essential, as having a Registered Agent is required for LLCs in all states and is responsible for receiving critical documents sent from the State on your behalf - including legal notices, government correspondence, and lawsuit notifications. Once the Registered Agent mail is received, you will have the option to forward that mail to the document center.
Who Can Be a Registered Agent?
A Registered Agent can be a third-party individual or business entity, or you can choose to serve as your own LLC’s Registered Agent. The Registered Agent must be at least 18 years old, have a physical address in the state where the LLC is registered, and be available during standard business hours to receive legal and government documents.
You may also choose Tailor Brands as your Registered Agent; however, please note that third-party registered agents are not supported in our system.
How to Purchase the Tailor Brands Registered Agent Service
For LLCs formed with Tailor Brands, we offer a Registered Agent service that can be added to your LLC only during the LLC application process for an additional fee. You'll be able to add this service after the checkout page. Once the application has been submitted, you won't be able to designate Tailor Brands as your registered agent. However, you may initially appoint Tailor Brands as your Registered Agent and later switch to a different agent if desired (through an amendment) — but not the other way around.
As a subscription service, the Registered Agent plan will automatically renew each year, so you can feel confident knowing the Registered Agent requirements and responsibilities are being handled and focus on running your business.
Assigning a Registered Agent is a crucial step in forming your LLC, and staying compliant with state requirements is essential.
